Contract of Indefinite Duration (CID) - Qualified

To receive a contract of indefinite duration:
  1. you must have three years successive qualified service (fixed term contracts) with the CDETB (ref. Haddington Road)
  2. the hours of your CID are those in the immediate previous year’s contract, less any hours which are for temporary cover
  3. you must be fully qualified for the position
  4. you must be registered with Teaching Council

You will not receive a CID:

  1. where it has been indicated to you by the CDETB in your fixed term contract that the post is not viable over a reasonable period of time and the specific reason (fixed purpose) for this is stated
  2. if you are a teacher covering for persons on career breaks, or other approved absences from which the person can return

Appeals
There is an appeal mechanism in place for those who do not receive a CID but who feel they are entitled to one. This appeal mechanism can also be used by teachers who have been awarded a CID but dispute the number of hours they have been given on their CID contract. Appeals are processed in accordance with Circular Letter 0050/2006.  Information on this mechanism can be obtained from the Department of Education & Skills website, or from your Union.
