Adoptive Leave
An adoptive mother or a sole adoptive father has an entitlement to 24 weeks paid Adoptive Leave with effect from 1st March 2007. An employee has an entitlement to an additional 16 weeks unpaid adoptive leave with effect from 1st March 2007. Where public holidays fall during the period of unpaid adoptive leave they are added on at the end of the unpaid leave period. The increase in the number of weeks only applies to persons who commence their adoptive leave or unpaid adoptive leave on or after 1
st
March 2007.
The application procedures for adoptive leave are the same as for maternity leave. The applicant must also submit the original Adoption Order to the Human Resources Department (this will be returned by registered post). An employee paying the ‘A’ stamp PRSI, must submit the appropriate Adoptive Leave Benefit form, to the Human Resources Department. We will complete pay details and return the form to the employee. The employee is required to forward the form to Social Welfare. The teacher in question will continue to receive their salary as normal from CDETB, but must submit all Adoptive Leave Benefit payments to CDETB Banking Section, Head Office.
